Centre for Forest Protection
Developing the forest scientists of the future
Cultivating resilience in our woodlands
The UK's woodlands face unprecedented challenges, from environmental shifts to the escalating threat of non-native pests and pathogens. Protecting these vital ecosystems demands a unified, forward-thinking approach. This is precisely the mission of The Centre for Forest Protection (CFP), a powerful joint venture bringing together the unparalleled expertise of Forest Research and the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew.
The CFP isn't just about identifying threats; it's about building a more resilient future for our forests through innovative science, interdisciplinary research, and, crucially, a robust education and training programme. With previous experience in the forestry sector, adaptiVLE was approached to create an engaging course to help develop forest scientists of the future.

Recognising the urgent need to enhance skills and knowledge within the forestry sector, the CFP is committed to developing the forest scientists of tomorrow while also providing continuous professional development (CPD) for current professionals. This commitment is brought to life through a dynamic e-learning programme.
While the course content was expertly written by Subject Matter Experts, the delivery of the course had to have a modern, engaging feel, and crucially, had to come in on budget. Luckily, adaptiVLE is experienced in delivering visually appealing, uncompromised functionality at all pricing levels, making us an ideal partner for this critical initiative. The training is meticulously designed to align with the CFP's core values and research interests, ensuring it remains at the cutting edge of forest protection.
Engaging expertise within budget

Dynamic training for a critical mission
The cornerstone of the CFP's training initiative is its "Resilience Fundamentals, Tree Health, and Non-Native Pests and Pathogens" theme. The inaugural module, "Meet the Threats," provides a comprehensive overview of the significant risks posed by non-native pests and pathogens.
This module is invaluable for anyone with an interest in tree health, offering a broader perspective on how science, legislation, and proactive management strategies can collectively bolster woodland resilience. Learners gain access to a wealth of useful resources, providing deeper context and detail on these critical issues.

We created "Meet the Threats" using Articulate Storyline, featuring a custom-designed course format and innovative AI avatar presenters. This cutting-edge approach facilitates learning and makes complex information more accessible. The module is seamlessly hosted on the Silvestor forestry learning platform, a dedicated educational environment also built by adaptiVLE, further enhancing the user experience.
Through initiatives like "Meet the Threats," The Centre for Forest Protection is not only advancing our scientific understanding but also empowering the forestry sector with the knowledge and skills needed to safeguard our precious woodlands for generations to come.
