Meet the Team - Charlie Horton
Describe your role.
As Head of Platform Development I am responsible for how our systems evolve over time, be it servers, coding or educational design. As we grow, there is a need to ensure stability and expandability of the systems, so our clients get the best experience we can provide for their learning and training requirements.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
The usual things really, Policeman, Fireman, and finally Astronaut. As I went on I realised that astronaut might not be on the cards, however springing from that my love of learning how things worked stayed with me and developing systems came from there.
How did you land your current role?
I used to work with Lewis years ago and we kept in contact. I had gained 15+ years' experience working for colleges in Leeds and when adaptiVLE was looking to expand, he knew where to find me!
What do you love about your job?
The creative nature of what I get to do. With the differing needs of our clients it means I have a different challenge every day and that keeps my creative juices flowing.
What is your favourite piece of software?
That's a hard one, I think I am going to have to go with Visual Studio Code at the moment. Switching from PC to Mac, as I have working here, has meant learning a different style as to how I do things and it has meant I use it more and more to make my creations happen.
Where do you see e-learning in the next 5 years?
As the world moves to a more remote way of working, I think there is going to be more of a swing to online training, using mobile and bite-sized learning techniques. Organisations will have evolved from using huge monolithic training systems to more agile learning, as their workforces adapt to a new normal.
