Doncaster Deaf Trust

An online platform to help deaf people be seen and heard

Doncaster Deaf Trust provides specialist education and care services for people who are deaf or have other communication difficulties and learning disabilities.

Having previously worked with doncaster Deaf Trust, we were tasked with redesigning the existing platform and course to help expand the awareness and knowledge of sign language to a wider audience.

A new look

adaptiVLE originally built a platform for Doncaster Deaf Trust in 2019, with the aim of delivering a Lottery-funded course on British Sign Language. The course outperformed all expectations during the Covid-19 pandemic, when many people turned to online learning as a distraction from furlough or the work-from-home phenomenon. Due to its success, further funding was secured and we were once again approached to visually refresh the site and course.

 Enhanced usability

Together with changes to the user experience and interface, we also made improvements to the course's look and accessibility. We even added a re-engagement tool to encourage past users to return and continue their learning.

A timely relaunch

The refreshed platform was launched during sign language week in March 2023 and DDT has already seen a 25% increase in users, which now stands at almost 20,000 individuals.
